How Bitcoin Helps Humanity Climb Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
“One's only rival is one's own potentialities. One's only failure is failing to live up to one's own possibilities. In this sense, every man can be a king." - Abraham Maslow
Stories shared by Bitcoiners over the years have one common theme:
“Bitcoin changed my life!”
It is a fascinating thing to study. How can a simple software program serving as a distributed ledger, inspire people to become…better?
What is behind this magical internet money that is so fascinating that it captures the imagination, helps people kick bad habits and then turns them toward a higher calling in life?
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs explains to all of us what makes us happy, healthy and thriving individuals.
This visual is fairly easy to understand, even if you’ve never cracked a psychology book in your life.
You need to have your needs at the bottom of the pyramid MET before you can ascend toward self-actualization.
Our world today is in dire need of solutions, once the basics are met an individual can grow stronger leading to a better neighborhood. Once a community has the basics down, a society can grow. And once a society grows, humanity can thrive.
Bitcoin, as a giant technological leap forward plays its role perfectly.
A sound money anyone, anywhere can hold, spend, give and share as he sees fit without interference from third parties.
Humanity will continue to ascend with Bitcoin!
Bitcoin and Your Physiological Needs
The basics in life are simply as follows…
Food, water, shelter and clothing.
There is of course variance in exactly what we may need depending on where we live. An eskimo does not need a set of swimming trunks, and a desert dweller needs no fur-lined parka.
But unless we have the basics, that is pretty much how we will spend all of our time…trying to secure the basics for ourselves and our family.
Enter Bitcoin
Look, it’s rough right now if you’re broke as a joke.
The government is running inflation HOT, and they will keep running it HOT til they can get their debt somewhat under control.
This means the little guy gets continually screwed. Food, gas and shelter are going to be going up steadily for a while. Once inflation is let loose, it’s like a runaway train. It simply keeps going til it runs out of steam.
So what’s a man to do?
Buy and Hold Bitcoin
The amazing thing about Satoshi’s discovery is that it’s divisible down to fractions of a penny.
So get on the horse and start riding. Buy $10 this week and $20 next. Quit wasting your fiat money on lottery tickets and beer. Delete that stupid gambling app on your phone and put the cash into Bitcoin instead.
Strap in, make a plan and work that plan.
You aren’t going to get rich quick.
That’s OK….Bitcoin isn't a get-rich-quick scheme, it is a “don’t end up poor” savings plan for intelligent people with drive and discipline.
We all start small. There’s no shame in that, there’s only shame in not starting.
JUST START
Once you become a self-starter, a go-getter, and a never-quitter, thing WILL just fall into place.
You not only have a little stack tucked away for your future, you have the confidence that it’s GOING TO GROW in dollar terms because it’s engineered money.
Your Security and Safety Needs - Met By Bitcoin
Next up on the pyramid is the desire to feel safe and secure.
People want to feel some order, some predictability and have a modicum of control in their lives.
These can cover several areas including
Emotional safety - Being around people who are trustworthy and allow one to express themselves without punishment
Physical safety - Being able to live in a community without fear of violence or theft
Financial security - Feeling educated enough and empowered to make choices that will enhance the life of your future self.
Obviously Bitcoin represents THE CHEAT CODE when it comes to building financial security.
An escape from the crooked and corrupt shit-show built on the quicksand that is fiat money.
Millions have been “Orange Pilled” a badge of honor indicating you’ve put in COUNTLESS HOURS studying Bitcoin and reaching the logical conclusion:
The world will never be the same
When one reaches this monumental conclusion, a wave of peace and calm washes over you.
Provided you’ve done the necessary work to hold your Bitcoin in cold storage, out of the grubby little hands of government and its banking arm — you are GOLDEN.
You can kick back and relax.
Even if Rome burns, you’ll know Bitcoin provides you with OPTIONALITY in the years ahead.
With this peace of mind, you can focus on leveling up once again.
The Feeling of Belonging That Comes From Bitcoin
Next on Maslow’s hierarchy is the desire for humans to feel love and feel like they are a part of something, that they belong - that will be our focus, the belonging that comes with Bitcoin.
At its core, Bitcoin is a decentralized movement to offer individuals private money.
How radical is the idea of private money, something completely unbacked by the State?
VERY
Since gold was replaced fully by fiat, private money has basically been DEAD, not even on the radar of the financial system.
Thus, advocates and supporters of private money had no way to connect on a worldwide scale…until the internet.
Now, there is a place we belong.
Not in the pubs like the American Revolutionary. This isn’t a geographical struggle against a single government. Rather it’s a peaceful and cooperative protest against all governments who’ve abused the people via inflation.
One that could only be organized by rules set out from the get-go, and only changed by consensus.
The feeling of belonging that comes from being a Bitcoiner takes many forms, here are but a few.
Elimination of monetary inflation, government theft from EVERYONE
Expansion of freedom and free speech as fiat can no longer be weaponized
Working with millions across the world, simply by holding the same money
Getting a seat at the table, Bitcoin welcomes all yet none rule over others
Shitposting with the anons on X about Cramer, Yellen and Liz Warren
There are other social aspects as well. Both online and in-person Bitcoiners are joining together to find and promote solutions in many areas.
Fixing the money is just the beginning….
Next, Orange pilled advocates climb the next rung on Maslow’s hierarchy.
Reaching Higher - Bitcoin and Esteem Needs
In time as our first three levels are fully met, we strive for the next level of the hierarchy.
A word of caution, a Bitcoiner can go batshit crazy as they look to have their esteem needs met.
Some have even fallen victim to the dreaded BDS (Bitcoin derangement syndrome) in their desire to be recognized for what they’ve done in Bitcoin..
There are two sides to the esteem coin. One is our feeling about ourself, the other is the feedback we get from others.
At its core, our esteem is our feeling of “sense of self” in relation to others.
Our EGO is in play at this point and that guy is one tricky son-of-a-bitch.
Naturally, if Bitcoin has helped us grow out of old habits, we’re going to have a sense of pride and accomplishment about that. The danger comes in thinking that now it’s time to “fix Bitcoin” or “fix” other Bitcoiners.
No and No
The beauty of Bitcoin is that it’s voluntary, open source and people can come and go as they please. Nobody is in charge, and nobody can change the protocol unless they gather consensus from others.
That truth seems lost on many, who allow ego to cloud their vision.
Some decide that they know better, that they are the ones to decide what Bitcoin should be rather than what Bitcoin is…
Garbage like BSV and Bitcoin Cash come to mind immediately when considering figures in Bitcoin history who thought they knew better.
So where should we allow Bitcoin to influence us when it comes to our esteem?
Focus on how you are helping both your family and community, while at the same time hardening the Bitcoin protocol so it becomes MONEY FOR EVERYONE ON EARTH.
It’s a magical, almost monumental task. Replacing every fiat money with one incorruptible monetary ledger is something that doesn’t happen every day. Enjoy and SAVOR it!
The feelings of self-worth and self-esteem that come with working on such a task are almost incomprehensible.
We are all truly participants in a peaceful monetary revolution.
Self-Actualization - Bitcoin’s Role in Raising Humanity to the Pinnacle of the Pyramid
Finally, we each individually arrive at the destination.
Self-actualization. Transcendence. A state of grace.
At the top of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is this idea…
“What a man can be, he must be”
At this point, your Bitcoin journey will take you on the road you were meant to be on since birth.
If you were to become a writer, you begin to write. If you were to paint, you paint. And if you were meant to build, you build. Anything and everything is now possible.
Bitcoin may or may not be a major part of your life at this point. It doesn’t matter anymore, as it has simply been a tool to free you from the shackles of debt slavery.
It pays you back in time, rather than in material goods or wealth.
And our time is what we crave control over more than anything else.
The fiat world makes it extremely difficult to reach this level, as we get caught up in just meeting our lower needs.
Bitcoin fixes this. As the decades roll by, millions will tuck away Bitcoin for themselves and begin to climb the pyramid leading to self-actualization.
A modern day renaissance will ensue. Beautiful art, music and writing will explode onto the scene. Deflationary technology built on Bitcoin will free up more time, for more people - everywhere.
At the same time, wars and financial oppression will be lessened greatly as the fiat money printer continues to malfunction. In time it eventually meets its maker and Bitcoin becomes world money.
Maybe Bitcoin has already changed your life. You may already have more time, you may have doubled down on your commitment to yourself, your family and your community and your financial well being.
If not, take time now to evaluate ALL that Bitcoin is, and how it indeed is a tool for self-sovereignty AND self-actualization!
I must commend you on effortlessly combining philosophical theories and finance. Great article though, would love to collaborate some time, shoot me a message if your open to it. Thanks mate!
